Entomologists? Get in here!

Sorry for the enormous pics, but all the better to see them my dear.

So I've killed exactly two of these in my basement, the only two I've seen.

They aren't crawling in from outside, at least not now, because it's -20 with a foot of snow outside.

I Googled Termites and Ants, and they don't look like anything I have seen on the web so far.

The two large "prongs" extend from the thorax, they are not "jaws" from the head.

The long fiber thing is just that, a fiber (I think from my plastic broom) it's not from the bug.

EOE????

Yes it is. Bubba Zanetti nailed it over on .net

Thanks all. That was the easiest EOE in history.

Probably, but if they're outdoors, I have never paid them any mind.

When they're in my basement, I was wondering if it was a big problem like termites or ants. Setting up shop, burrowing through the structure, giant colony, queens, eating the house, etc.

But these little fellas don't really do that.

Aparently, the earwigs will die without without a source of food in the house. They need moisture and organic matter. My basement is 1/2 concrete and 1/2 finished. The humidity is very low, and there are no leaks, so the little buggers are gonna have a tough time getting a meal.

And since I've seen only 2 of them, and they are both dead now, Hopefully there aren't many (any?) more.

Stop it.

I guess I'm just so used to stepping on them and kicking them under the oil burner, tool box etc, I don't pay any attention.

"Ear-wig, or Forficula auricularis, L. a well known insect, which has received its name from penetrating into the human ear, where it causes the most acute pains, and even, as some have asserted, eventual death." — The Domestic Encyclopedia, Willich and Mease, 1803

"The creature called forficula or earwig is said to make its way into the ear, and to occasion not only deafness, but violent pain by its biting; and there is an instance on record of a woman, in whose ear a nest of these infects were lodged, and reduced her to the greatest distress." — A Practical System of Surgery, James Latta, 1795

Why?

Continuing to do so just makes this place a smaller clone of that one. I think it's time to let go of the legacy and stop trying to make this place just a mirror of that place.

Yeah, I just wanted more people to see it. I was worried about colonies and queens and structure damage, because one side of my brain said TERMITE while the other side of my brain said "Nope, doesn't look like the Google images, can't be a termite".
