I was up VERY early (12:20am) one day last week and couldn't go back to sleep.

Watched "The Hateful Eight" at 1:30 am.

I'm not sure if the time of day had anything to do with it or if it really is just one fucked up flick.

Of course there are holes (what sci-fi, end-of-humanity movie doesn't?), but they are overwhelmed by a good story, (mostly) good acting, and a decent timeline.

Bumblebee was fun. Especially if you grew up in the 80s. I still don't get the whole Transformers thing. Like why does Optimus have the windshield of an earth vehicle built by humans as a chest plate. But if you ignore the entire foundation and concept of transformers the story and acting are good.

The multiverse thing is killing it right now on Rotten Tomatoes and with movie watchers. I haven't seen it yet, but am looking forward to it. Movie going is just so stupid expensive any more :(

Sheri and I just got back from seeing this.  I make it out to the movies about 4-6 times a year.  For the most part, we enjoy our home set up and miss very little via streaming or Bluray.

Anyhow, Spiderverse is one of the best movies I've seen in a while.  The storyline, animation, writing, and overall uniqueness is amazing.  Sheri and I could not stop raving about it on the way home.  Do yourself a favor and go see this one.  It's special.

I caught "girl", just before the rapids when they were talking, with headband... no-headband... with headband  oops.

"IT" could be a good way to illustrate evil / the devil - don't look - don't be sucked in.

At the end, "Rick", wasn't that Otis from the walking dead? The voice seemed exact though it looks like he put on a few.

Watched Bird Box this evening,  yeeeeaa
Not 5 stars, but acting was good, wish the script was

Plot; well good for end of world stuff, being that almost every other scenario has been done, the drawings did add a bit to the effect of just who or what "they" were.

Ending was just anti climatic, almost "well ok they made it, as if there were any other option in the directors mind.

Well at least it is on netflix so cost was minimal

Origin unknown 2036.   Total waste of time. Extremely slow and predictable. A blend of past sci fi movies (2001, contact, etc) that just didn't work. Kept waiting for it to get better and it never did.

Yesterday was a free pass day.  We watched Little Foot, an animated story of a Yeti finding a people.  Cute and mindless.  Then we watched Peppermint with Jennifer Garner.  She plays a badass which she does well and gets the justice she is seeking.  Then we watched Oceans 8.  It was not unlike the other Oceans but without George Cloony.  Well, almost without him.  I give it a solid three mehs.

Went and saw Aquaman yesterday. I've read of some pans of it. I disagree. In the scheme of things, it's not MCU but it's in the top 4 of DC attempts.

My sons loved it. Bumblebee is a nice bit of escapism, worth the price of admission.

"Spiderman: Multiverse".  For me it was like reading the latest Harry Potter book that is written as a play.  It takes about 10-15 minutes (pages) till the format isn't an issue at all- and the boy and I really liked it.  My son's favorite of the three we saw Christmas break.

"Aquaman".  One thing I know is that I suck as a movies critic, but win when it comes to movies, because a movie REALLY has to suck for me not to like it- I like almost all of them.  Many people are hating on this film- I loved it.  It does have about three "movements", but the boy and I really enjoyed it.

Saw Mary Poppins Returns yesterday with a girlfriend. I thoroughly enjoyed it - so much so that I almost bought the soundtrack at the store after the movie until I realized that I only have one piece of equipment between my home and office that will play a physical CD anymore. Guess I'll be buying the digital files this week instead!

The only thing that bugged me was Lin-Manuel Miranda. I'm sure Hamilton disciples will want me burned at the stake, but I feel like he overacted. He's great on the stage where being big, bold, and bombastic is necessary, but on the screen it just felt like too much. I found myself thinking a few times, "alright, chief...tone it down." It was a mild annoyance rather than a massive gripe.

I'd give the film 4.5 pineapples out of 5. I want to see it again!!!
I used to make a bigger impression.

Liz said pretty much the same thing about him. She's not a fan of his voice, either.

Watched the Black Mirror: Bandersnatch movie. For like 3 1/2 hours. It's a choose-your-own-adventure* style movie, with a number of decision points that let you break off into other branches of the story tree. Pretty interesting movie, generally well acted, and taking place in a well-built world. I won't say it's a rewatch-right-now kind of thing, and because of that, it loses a star, coming in at a solid 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. But definitely worth some time working through it.

[ * ] - note: apparently not all devices permit using the decision-choosing features. We watched it on the Roku and everything worked just fine. Some mobile devices seem stymied by it.

The wife and I watched Bandersnatch last week. Interesting concept, "choose your own". It worked fine on Netflix from out Fire TV stick. We found it interesting. Didn't hate it, didn't love. I wanted to see it for the concept. My question is, how long would it take someone to watch the entire movie, each time selecting a different choice, until you're gone through every possible scenario?

In addition to not having the tech for it, I don't think I would like that. For me, movies  are for turning the brain off and going into receive only mode.

Agreed. I wouldn't go back to do it again, but it was a fun thing sitting on the couch sipping something and chatting over possibilities between us, then seeing how they went.

Saw "The Upside" Tuesday night (my dear wife's birthday).  Fun flick.  My 12 YO boy was dying in many parts, as was I, the middle school teacher.  I'd recommend, but there's no reason you can't wait for video unless you are eager to see it.  On video I'd highly recommend.

Aside from the time you're distracted from what your job description says you're being paid to do, what is the cost of a constant, long-duration load on the bandwidth of your company network (designed for bursty traffic of saves and loads)? The decreased performance that all your coworkers on that segment of the LAN/WAN are subjected to?

Death Wish 2018.  I loved the old Charles Bronson versions. The movie wasnt that bad. Bruce Willis on the other hand was. They could have cast someone better than Bruce. He just isn't believable as an action star anymore.

Spideyverse: I liked the story. I liked most of their animation choices except their depth of field done as double-images instead of blur. I actually went back out and got a set of 3-d glasses to see if I had overlooked it being 3-d. IMO a rental.

Glass: Not a fan of M-K-S since 6th Sense. Too many attempts at "the twist" that were telegraphed minutes into the movies. The Village? Who didn't know from the beginning? I did like Unbreakable though. Split, the 2nd in the trilogy, has slipped under my radar until the trailers for Glass started dropping. As with any 2nd act, Split is good and bad as exposition but McAvoy is excellent in the roll in both movies. Glass was one my brother and I both recommend. I put the heavy lifting of the movie's progression on the shoulders of McAvoy. He owns it.

Punisher: S2 has dropped and E1 seems to be a promise of another good story line.

Daredevil: Just finished season 3. I've read some other reviews where people called it the "Kingpin" show. But for a character's arc to have depth, those around him have to have it too. Giving Fisk the room to breath as a villain was, IMO, a good choice. It made the finale even more meaningful.

My job is to operate a high pressure steam plant and a number of smaller outplant boilers, there are various checks and rounds I make in the course of that job. Since those rounds and checks take less than 8 hours I have a lot of time in hurry up and wait mode, therefore I entertain myself by monitoring plant conditions and watching YouTube films and so on. As far as company bandwidth use goes I neither know nor do I care, nor do I care about my co-workers job performance unless it affects me personally.

Pretty shitty attitude to have in the aggregate, the other side of the coin is that I've had a total of 5 days off since October, the company has no qualms about working me like an indentured servant and I in turn have no qualms about goofing off when I have completed my assigned tasks.

Any reason you guys are being dicks to each other? Did I miss something?

I was channeling my inner corporate IT user rules guy. If company guidelines allow for personal use of company resources, then I'm cool with whatever my customers do. I have no qualms reminding them about that if they then say something about performance issues.

My initial reaction was solely based my experience being that the same people wanting free reign also complaining about response times and performance. So, in a way, Cookie was right. In another way, it's more meta; like a Russian Nesting Whine.

A Simple Favor A surprisingly good murder mystery, with moments of comic relief.  Recommend

You should check out The Last Kingdom as well. More pretty girls and swords.

We just started that series this weekend.  We're about 5 episodes in.  Pretty good so far.

Captain Marvel - I liked it. It takes place pre-Iron man 1 but the lead-out clips are post-Avengers: Infinity War. Nice tribute to Stan (The Man) Lee.

If you have to ask; I don't know.

The Stan thing was... heartfelt. Sweet. Loved it.

Dude really was a solid contributor to Earth. People love entertainment, but it's rare, I think, that we truly celebrate certain creators. Dude made some crazy stuff into household names, and helped change, shape, and iconize a whole shit ton of pop culture. Dude made an impact.

That was a fantastic movie. I loved every single minute of it.

I'm guessing "lead out clip" is synonymous with credit clip?  You know that scene smacked in the middle of the credits that you're forced to sit and wait for while trying not to piss your pants? ;D

Yep. Aka, "stingers".

Marvel has taken to doing two during the out credits, now. One after the first "here's everyone who you saw on screen", and then another one after the full credit roll.

What's a lead out clip?

If a clip before a story is a "lead-in" (or intro), then one after the story is a "lead-out" (or outro).

As a child of the 90s and huge Kevin Smith fan, I absolutely LOVED Stan's last cameo.
