Adolfseck, Germany - the locals are PO'ed
« on: July 22, 2015, 04:16:15 PM »
For anyone thinking about heading towards the Taunus (NW of Wiesbaden - west central Germany) and Wispertal, or towards Limburg: On B54, coming out of Wiesbaden, just beyond Bad Schwalbach is a small town called Adolfseck. It's got some killer curves that the knee-dragger brigade love to attack. The locals, however, are seriously PO'ed about people blasting through town, engines screaming. A new set of speed traps have gone up, and the speed limit will be dropped to 30 km/hr. It's pretty country and the run down to the Rhine via Wispertal offers great riding that's challenging (narrow two-lane roads). But do watch out. The "loud pipes save lives" riders are getting past just being annoying to folks along the way.

That's the problem - the knee draggers have assumed it's all theirs and the locals are now big on  "NFW".

If you're headed that way, B54 has a lot going for it as does the Wispertal road (landstrasse L3033). And then there's B260, AKA B├Ąderstrasse because it ties together a number the "bath" or "cure" towns (e.g., Schlangenbad, Bad Schwalbach). The alternate way west out of Bad Schwalbach, Reitallee (L3374), has its little "tune up for the Alps" turns. Smack in the middle of the hairpin turn is a place called Da Nunzio. Killer wood fired oven pizza and a great view back into town. (Well, sorta - right now there's a huge gash through the forest where a for-real tornado came through about a year ago).

Anyway, get to the Rhine, find your way north to Deutsches Eck near Koblenz (take a ferry at any point south of there), turn left and head along the Moselle. Um, did I mention this is wine country? Serious wine country? Heh, heh, heh...  Lessee... beyond that is H├╝hnsruck (mountains), Trier (v. ancient - Roman - city), and Luxembourg is just across the river at that point.

I've mentioned this area to you before Colleen. I lived less than 60 miles southwest of Bad Schwalbach for 3 years. The Hunsruck, Taunus & Eifel Mountains offer some awesome roads and the ride along the Mosel is fun all the way to Trier.
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Yes, they certainly did. I believe Trier was sacked, though, by invading barabrians as the Empire shrank.

And I wuz right: The Franks seized Trier from Roman administration in 459.

Um, well... actually... y'see... the Franks came with the Steins and, combined, the Franks 'n' Steins were a real monster... [/ducking & running]
