Started drawing up plans for a superlight teardrop camper build based on a HF 40"x48" trailer.  We shall see if I can make this happen over the summer.  Max load is just 1090# for the trailer.  Sweet Jeebus, lumber has gone crazy priced, like tripled since my last Home Depot run.


Trailer's been sitting in a box in the basement for several years.  It was originally bought to make a motorcycle cargo tagalong.  When the touring bikes went away, it got shoved in a corner.

Anywho, IMHO - anything smaller than 4'x8'  for a teardrop build your wasting your time. To small and not worth the effort. (unless for a MC pull?)

Progress will be damn slow.  I just looked at lumber prices this morning.    Holy *bleep*, Batman.  $45 for a sheet of plywood?  $7 for a 2x4?  Good news is I can wait since the camper won't be needed till 2022.

Y'all are fooked down there.  The good news is - by next Saturday, you'll be nearly back to normal.  I see mid-60s forecast.  Just watch out for the flooding from the fast melt.

I've been experimenting with sourdough this past year. I have my little science experiment sitting on top of the microwave. I thought I was doing alright until bomber showed up on Saturday with a loaf for us 3 times the size of anything I've made so far. That man is a wizzard!

Put the charger on the van battery last night for giggles.  It just started.   


ETA: let it run for 20 minutes or so.  Shut it off.  It fired right back up, no hesitation.  Gonna give it an hour and try again.

Made shortcut jambalaya (box of Zattarain's plus andouille, chicken, and half a can of Rotel we had in the fridge). Was it authentic? No. Was it delicious? YUP. CB doesn't appreciate "holiday cuisine" enough to go all out on a weeknight, so this satisfied him and was "good enough" for me. I'd have preferred shrimp and grits with a Pimm's Cup, but we can't always get what we want. Some old guy band taught me that.

New air filter, cabin filter and cleaned the throttle plate on the Highlander, oil change tomorrow after work. I'm trying to decide whether I should change the transmission, differential and transfer case oil. Toyota only recommends it if you tow, which I don't and my commute is early enough that I miss all the stop and go-bumper car antics of my fellow motorists. It's basically a 45-50 mph drive for an hour each way.

I guess I probably should, but I've always felt over maintaining a vehicle was just as detrimental as under maintaining. I guess I'll just overthink about it some more..

Parts are starting to trickle in.  Got a 120V power port like the one on the van, a cable tv exterior pass thru, trailer stabilizers for the rear, a set of fold down table mounts, a largish cargo compartment door and talking with a local salvage supplier about a nice RV window and teardrop door for pickup later this week.


I've got some lumber put away from other projects that can be repurposed too.

Not a chance of that happening for at LEAST 3 more months up here.  We're in a melt cycle starting today for about 4-5 days.  Damn good thing because I'm running out of clearance to throw snow over the built up ice berms.  I miss sitting on the deck in warmth.

Flurries again today - maybe an inch or two mixed with rain later today - at least here in southern PA, it’s guaranteed to melt sometime in March.  Then it will be right into summer and outdoor dining will return, along with dayrides.

unloaded a semi load of hay (rounds, not squares, or I'd be dead). replaced the drain valve on one of the horse tanks the "someone" knocked off "somehow".  then a little tractor maintenance and general clean up now that the cold spell is gone. After that the "someone" took me for a burger and a couple beers, not a bad day all in all....

Yet another toilet fill valve went wrong, and this one didn't respond to a disassembly and cleaning. Replaced with a new one.  It's a Korky, which is made here in Wisconsin.  Easy installation and adjustment.  Supporting my (new) home team!

Reinstalled the toilet paper holder I foolishly broke off the wall. Spackled the original holes, sanded and painted. Looks good as new.
