That's cool.

Thanks!

To clarify... the trophies are made elsewhere and shipped to me. Judging from the newsprint inside, probably Thailand.

Great work!
My GPS just told me to turn left, then turn left, then turn left, then turn left.
So if I go too far left do I end up right?

Went to the new gun place yesterday. Massive! Full-service place with ranges, long and short guns as well as class 3. Rentals of same. An entire normal-store-sized area for just knives. Lounge area and more. Will allow draw-from-holster drills on the range, too.

Soft Open was Monday. The ranges will be done by Friday and the Grand Opening is Saturday, 11/16.

Because Youtube has only the fuck ups. The number of successful presentation-from-holster drills done successfully each day are legion. There's a progressive method to learning not unlike snow skiing. You don't start out of the gate at full speed and loaded any more than you'd head down black diamonds with 200 competition skis on your first day skiing.

As most wise range owners do, a member/customer has to ask before beginning such practice. Range traffic, knowing the customer's skills, etc. all play a part in getting permissions. Note that their full auto rentals are also potentially more overwhelming to dumb-ass Arabs in thawbs than a single shotgun blast that knocks them on their asses. That doesn't mean that all users are the same.

VIP memberships add shoot-and-move drills to the list.

First freeze last night (and still nearly so as of now). Got all the outside faucets covered and the sprinkler system turned off yesterday in anticipation of it. We rarely stay this cold for long, so a few days from now it might be warm enough to turn the sprinklers back on... if it stops raining long enough to warrant it.

Brother came by yesterday so I hosted him to lunch, dinner, a movie, and gun stuff.

New mower was delivered a couple days ago. With rain the last two days and snow today, I don think I will get a chance to try it this year. I'll just have to look at it all winter and hope for an early spring. I'm pretty jacked to try this baby out.  Ferris ISX800 with 61" deck and 26 hp vanguard motor. Independent suspension all round and suspension seat. Should cut my mowing time down a bit and be much more enjoyable.

Backup for now till I get comfortable with the ferris. Then we will sell it. I would rather put the Deere in the pond than the ferris.

I bought more NyQuil.  If we both keep these colds going for much longer, I'm gonna have to develop some drink recipes using it and post them on the appropriate thread.

My last yard leaf cleanup is done, stashed the patio set, pulled the gazebo canvas and put it all away.  The van is getting packed tomorrow and departure is Sunday.   :twofinger: winter.  I'm going somewhere warm for a month or so.  Back for Christmas.  Maybe.

Have to take one of the insulated covers off a faucet because I noticed it has a slow drip that didn't have time enough to show before evaporating in the summer. New o-ring/gasket kit needed post-haste.

My world revolves around my Stihl  backpack blower.  Three times a week this time of year for a full tank of fuel each time I have to blow the leaves off my driveway.  If I don’t they could catch on a stick and dam up the water and that could result in very bad things with the kinds of elevation changes I have up here.
We just got back from an impromptu work day at the church. Cut down a big ole gum tree and filled a 40 yard dumpster with brush from the back of the property. 6 hours of ow. Either getting poked with the brush or lifting massive logs onto the splitter, something was hurting.

Clothes dryer has been squeaky of late. It's at least 15 years old so figured it needed a belt or drum wheels. Ordered a rebuild kit of belt, tensioner pulley, drum wheels and axles before opening it up. After pulling the drum and setting it down I heard the squeak out of the machine. After further inspection, found one of the screws holding the tumbler bar in was loose.  put in all the new parts anyway. Everything was surprisingly in good shape. Everything nice and quite now.

Heh. I love wordies. <3

The way I learned it back in the day, -tative differed in that it was a more direct-action, proactive thing you did, where as -tive was a more passive quality to a thing or environ.

For instance, bleach is a preventive cleaner, while cleaning with bleach is a preventative way of cleaning.

It's time for some household winterization with the temps getting to freezing.

Outside hoses are disconnected and the taps are turned off from the inside to prevent freezing. The same will be done in the garage by the end of the month--I might find a day warm enough to wash the bike again before its too cold.

I sprinkled bug killer and rodent repellant around the foundation.  We discovered some mouse traps among the shrubbery after moving in.  The neighbors said that the prior owners had a field mouse problem several years ago, but not recently.  Apparently the ground under the concrete patio had sunken, creating a good nesting area for the field mice. Once that was filled in, the mouse problem went away.  But there's good mouse territory all around, so a little repellant can't hurt and might help.

Has anyone ever noticed how a "value added" item can actually become "value subtracted" in actual practice?

The new home has hardwood floors in the dining area.  My Grandmother's dining room chairs have metal glides that were starting to harm the floors.  I first put stick-on felt pads on the chairs, but they turned out to be less than sticky.  I now am replacing the glides and felt with a different product that is better (tried it out in with the kitchen table first). But this would have been unnecessary had we not bought a home with fancy hardwood floors.  Fanciness induces extra work.

Similarly, the fancy grouted tile in the shower is a pain to clean in comparison to the seamless fiberglass shower at our old home.

I just want something simple and easy to maintain, like a home that can be cleaned with a pressure washer once a year.

Hmm, maybe this should have gone on the rant thread?

Watched the Sounders win the MLS Cup for the second time in 4 years, then rode the bike over to my son in laws and jammed it in their storage shed, where it will sadly spend most of this winter. I still need to run an extension cord out there for my trickle charger, of course I'll have to go buy one because everything in the garage is already boxed up and I forgot to leave a cord out.

Emptied out and boxed up the kitchen cabinets. I had no idea my wife had so much stuff crammed away in cupboards and shelves, quite impressive really.

Watch the expiration dates. I helped pack my parents' house for their retirement move. In the back of the pantry I found a can with a grocery store label from the town we had lived in at the previous house, which was over 11 years prior.  And my folks weren't hoarders or disorganized by any means.  It can happen to anyone.

I watched my neighbor shovel his driveway.  Which was unexpected as we're in a condo association and pay good money for someone else to do this.  He also raked his leaves and disposed of them when the condo ass'n also has somebody do this for us.  I think he's doing retirement wrong.

I went to the Remembrance Day ceremony today in our town. It was snowing. It was cold. I kept thinking about the heroes who were wet, cold, hungry and tired and who were being shot at the same time. They were being blown out of the sky. They were being torpedoed in freezing waters. They were being machine gunned in the snow.

I got into my truck and turned on the heater.

And I cried. I can never say “THANK YOU” enough.
My GPS just told me to turn left, then turn left, then turn left, then turn left.
So if I go too far left do I end up right?

Yes, there's a Remembrance Day poem going around, along the lines of we're still here in Flanders though the world has moved on, everyone that knew us has passed on etc..

Real tear jerker.

Yep.  It brought to mind my Mother's Uncle who died as a very young man in WWI.  For the most part, nobody alive today knows much about him other than that fact, and his name lives on in a cousin's middle name.  Sometimes I wonder what would he have done had he lived, married, had children?

Brother and I went to Red Robin where they picked up the tab for lunch for us. This is the first time I've gone to take advantage of such offerings.

 In Flanders Fields
By John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
        In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
        In Flanders fields.
