I have have missed this before?  But, are you a crane operator?  I understand that's a rare talent to operate one.  An old friend of mine gets to travel the world being hired to do major lifts.

no, I work for a power company (rural electric Coop actually). we just rent the crane and operator when we need to lift something bigger than our digger derricks can lift. In this case a substation transformer. but you are correct it is a special talent.
the above are merely the ramblings of a hamfisted fuckwit who has broken too many helmets.

Hit a rock with the mower and took it in the leg. Pants are for sissies.

Lucky it was just a rock.

I think about that sometimes when mowing.

Got up and had morning coffee on the deck.  Heard a cat mewing somewhere in the yard.  Looked over the railing and saw it was actually a fawn complaining that mom was on the other side of the fence grazing.  Watched fawn run along the fence and bash into it a couple times trying to get to mom.  Walked out to yard and opened up the big gate with minimal fawn freakage.  Fawn eventually figured it out.  Mother & child, doing well.

Spent about 45 minutes lapping a Formula Renault car as part of a racing school experience. That stroked childhood fantasies and checked off a bucket list item. And I wasn't bad.

Not too fancy, but So Much Fun-- parking lot course at Fontana Speedway. Formula Renaults from the early 2000s. Chief instructor was Allen Berg, an almost racing star and with 9 F1 starts (he did several laps with us in a minivan to show us the lines -- that was cool). 20 laps single file behind a pace car, increasing in speed for 7 of us. Then 4 of us did 10 laps at any speed we wanted, passing restricted to turn 1 at the end of the long straight.

First time for me in any purpose built race car. Loved it. I was by far the fastest in the group but that had more to do with them being very slow than me being very good. I got that glory moment of the next group greeting me in the pits with, "Dude, you were hauling ass!" The instructors knew better, though. I got some good tips from the mechanic.

It was my father's day present. Beats the hell out of bad after shave.

First day of new contract yesterday. Arrived in good time but the roads were rammed with traffic-and the car was showing a fault.

Bike to work today, car in garage. It's only 55 miles each way but through the busiest roads in Europe. No problem on a bike, I was making excellent time. Until that broke down too, 10 miles short. There seems to be a problem with the ignition circuit.

You bet it did.  Congrats and thanks for the details.

I met Berg once at a Brian Redman vintage weekend at Summit Point Raceway.  Look, anyone who got to race against Senna is OK in my book.

Today, I went around to my detested neighbours house.

I said to him, you weren't expecting me, were you?

He said that he was.

So, I said to him, you weren't expecting this were you?

And before he could answer, I shot his cat.

Paid  a pile of bills.
Helped Mrs Slayman paint a door. Since when do hinges not have removable pins? Usually if you can 't prise the pin out from the top you can knock it out from the bottom with a pointy object. These hinges have something in the bottom that prevents that.....any hinge EOE's?
Installed repainted shutters. One is upside down, on purpose. Just because.

Nice to see what appears to be an excellently restored (or maintained  ) Bronco out gettin' good and dirty.

I-40? I drove from Champaign, IL to San Diego, CA in November in the early 90s. It was cold and clear and it was like the sky was a big blue bowl over that flat earth. That day I felt really, really tiny.

The west is beautiful in its own stark way.

For the last 3 years I've been chasing a slow leak on the AC system on the Explorer. Had changed all the O rings, Compressor manifold O rings, and pulled the condenser and had it pressure tested. The last thing to look at was the evaporator condenser. So I proceeded to remove the AC box off the fire wall.

Had it tested and found a leak. It could not be fixed so I got a new one.

Since the motor was all clear I changed the valve cover gasket and plugs.

Posseted: v.
1. To put forth the belief that action was taken in a driven, motivated fashion
2. Movement toward a purpose with great urgency
3. The act of cleaning under boob sweaty lint from a Mexican-Inuit married matron.

Congratulations!

A kind, genuine question: The person in the wheelchair... Is she involved on the ice and if so, how?

Yep, she's our teammate and fortunately the wheelchair was temporary!  With four minutes left to go in the championship game, she was checked against the boards and went down hard.  Ice rink staff took her off the ice in the wheelchair because she couldn't put weight on the leg.  She went to urgent care after the game and confirmed no fracture, hooray!
