There are a lot of good people over there, I wish they would come here. Unfortunately, I'm too bitter over what that self righteous fuckwit Kneel did to visit that place. I have no issues with anyone else over there. I wont be going back.

See, I don't know if that is sarcasm or not - and it's really not funny either way.  I haven't paid attention to any pissing matches that may or may not have taken place.

I just think it's a pain in the ass to have two sites, and this one feels "clicky".  I've got 4 nice ride reports living on .N - so it sucks to abandon it.

It's just too bad really.

I don't know what any of these comments are about or refer to. My first thought when I read there was a National and 4 people attended, was that it was a shame. It was an observation that had nothing to do with the splitting of sites or who was on what site.

I started visiting the forum (ST.N) a long time ago (2004 I think) when it was still relatively small, but there seemed to be a large turnout at most of the events. In that time I have seen the forum implode several times and many of it's members contribute greatly to its resurrection. I have my opinions about Kneel and they have been hashed out ad nausea since the great sale many times, no need to revisit.

I Think it's great that we can still have two communities that still gather together for the meets despite how some of us feel about how it all started/ended. It's too bad we can't just have one. I think it kind of sucks that people are not traveling the great lengths that they once did for some of these national meets. I still remember people coming in from all over the country for the burger meet. I've traveled all the way out to SD for a National myself and had plans for many more long trips. Unfortunately financially I just can't do it anymore.

I've met some really great people on both of these sites. As I said, I am just very surprised to see a National Meet with so few people. I don't think that has anything to do with there being two sites or any other similar dynamic. Hell, a lot of people frequent both sites.

Hopefully soon I will be back on two wheels and have the extra income to make it 5 people at the next National.

My 2 cents, the date was set very late in the summer and few people had vacation time to take at that point in the year, I would have loved to attend but without time off it was impossible. Also the week after labor day is the worst time for a vacation request simply because everyone and thier mother wants it  off, not the best choice IMHO>

I started visiting the forum (ST.N) a long time ago (2004 I think) when it was still relatively small, but there seemed to be a large turnout at most of the events.

Then there was the whole economy thing-many sold bikes, changed jobs, had financial hardships-so that would effect turnout. Also over the last 10 years people got older, had kids, or simply lost interest. I don't think it is a trend as much as it is a wave. I haven't been to a meet in years, but some of those things I listed above have taken their toll on my best laid plans. Hopefully I am getting to place in my life where I can travel a bit more freely, and I'm sure there must be others in the same boat.

See you at the next meet!*

*There used to be more local-ish lunch meets too. Call one and they will come? If they don't, at least you won't starve.

As far as the local stuff goes, a lot of those rides get set up via Facebook/email these days. When the same folks show up all the time it doesn't make sense to start a thread.

Some good points. I agree that a lot of people don't have the time or funds like they did 10 years ago.

You would think the influx of new people would replace those who left and became inactive.

I agree that timing probably had something to do with the amount of people who showed up at the National, but it just seems there are fewer meets with fewer attendees overall from what I recall. Maybe it's just my perception, maybe not. I have no evidence to support my statement.

As far as Facebook goes, I really have no interest in it. I had an account, but just didn't use it. Plus I have no interest in posting everything I do to everyone.

I'm working on my financial situation and hope to be in a better place in the next year. If things work out I will soon be heading out to some more meets. I always enjoyed meeting the people on here and exploring new places.

I think your perception is correct. I thought the influx of new would replace the old, but maybe the influx of new isn't keeping pace? (Swung to the ADV-style ride?)

I have FB, and I don't see rides posted there, so depending on who you are friends with, you might not see a lunch-meet unless you are one of the regulars.
I too am hoping I will be back in position to see/meet/travel more this next year.

Ever wonder what became of the people in those "cliques" from High School?
After graduation some of them bought motorcycles and joined a forum.

I've never been part of a clique, always more of an outsider. Probably more intentional than anything else. I always thought of ST.N/ST.O as the island of misfit toys. This place has more nerds/geeks than most forums. I think it's actually kind of cool that way.

It seems Sport Touring brings in smarter and more intellectual types in my opinion. Look at the IBA guys and how they modify their bikes, not to mention the innovative types of accessories.

There were always accusations of cliques on ST.N as there are here. I would guess ST.O has a smaller community, thus the perception of it being more of a clique.

The reason I have always liked this forum is you can say what you want without a lot of moderation. ST.N was like that once, but slowly went away from that format. The odd thing, I don't see the pissing matches on here that we used to see on ST.N.

I never saw STN/STO as cliquish.  More like a very loosely organized group of independent riders.  Which is why, IMO, STO does not attract large groups.

Me also, I floated between all the groups, but never part of any "inner circle".
Agree also with ST.n/ST.o assessment. It's a group of outsiders.

We're the 1% of the 1%'ters. Haha lol.
That's .0001
That goes a long way toward explaining why only four people showed up for this year's national.

I sincerely hope I'm not alone when I say I hope things are better next year
and we have the a better turn out for the national.
I, for one, am looking forward to it.

I sincerely hope I'm not alone when I say I hope things are better next year
and we have the a better turn out for the national.
I, for one, am looking forward to it.

Might I suggest that you start planning it now?

It's too bad you guys have your own little thing going over here.  Still lots of good folks on .N that don't even know .O happened.  Oh well.

There are a lot of good people over there, I wish they would come here. Unfortunately, I'm too bitter over what that self righteous fuckwit Kneel did to visit that place. I have no issues with anyone else over there. I wont be going back.

Well said. This site is much more socialist. The other was bought and sold and we were the value.
