Knob Creek for me. Two fingers and a single cube. A couple of homemade maraschino cherries (good recipe, but use sour, not sweet) and some of the sauce poured in for good measure.

Last night, kind of bored...  had a sip or more of John E. Fitzgerald's LARCENY: A Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, small batch stuff.  Quite tasty, slept like a log

Agreed! And the price is usually very reasonable.

I got it as a gift. One of my former mechanics (protoje now assistant manager) and I trade bottles every New Years.  He has great taste.  All I ever give him is my crappy homemade white lightning.

Last night, we had a pair of Boulevardiers.  https://imbibemagazine.com/recipe/the-boulevardier-cocktail-recipe/  We modify the recipe by using equal parts for the three liquors and an olive garnish.

We followed this with petite bacon-wrapped filets, au gratin potatoes, a salad with homemade mustard vinaigrette, and a mellow Cab.

Apparently it's #NationalDrinkWine day, but they are unclear about the quantity and right now I am stuck somewhere between a glass and a bottle, leaning more toward the bottle end of the spectrum. I type A LOT FASTER when I've had one or several glasses of wine...who knew! WOW.
I used to make a bigger impression.

I type faster loaded, too, but it gets less and less coherent as time passes.

We broke out our vintage bar recipe books and made a pair of Warday's Cocktails.  Excellent flavor, the yellow chartreuse adds just enough but not too much.

What books?

Well, the books themselves aren't vintage, but the drink recipes are. The recipe we followed was from Complete World Bartender Guide, Baronet 1977, ed. Bob Sennett.  But we also have what we call The Bible, which is Mr. Boston, of course.  But Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails by Ted Haigh and The Art of Mixology: Classic Cocktails and Curious Concoctions by Paragon Books, both still available on Amazon, are our principle sources of vintage recipes.  We also have another couple of good bar books which are a combination of old and new recipes.

We also like to pull out a random bottle or two and experiment.

We tried Stanley Tucci's Negroni recipe, which is a standard Negroni with a teaspoon of aged balsamic vinegar added.  We liked that so much that we tried Boulevardiers with the same added teaspoon of balsamic.  It's a good thing that we're retired.

Grilled salmon filets and a fresh garden salad with homemade vinaigrette with this.

That all sounds fantastic.  I will have to try adding that ingredient in my next Negroni!

I found a bottle Of Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Strength today. The little corner liquor store by my house turns out to have an amazing selection of the various specialty JDs, including the very rare Eric Church.

Anyhow, this stuff is 131 proof. Neat, I can barely get past the medicinal smell as it sets my nose hairs on fire. I can't taste much of anything.

A big splash of water opened it up, and revealed some surprising complexity. Neat, it was undrinkable for me. A big splash of water and it's still quite... vibrant, but tasty.

I mixed myself a boulevardier* with the stuff at full octane and hard a hard time for a while, but oddly enough, the more I drank the easier it got.

Anyhow, I'd recommend the non-barrel strength over the hi-test. It'd be more user-friendly.

*no balsamic.
