Tonight I'm finishing off a bottle of some unusual liqueur.  It's from Corbin Cash, and it's made from sweet potatoes.

http://corbincash.com/spirits/

It's an estate distillation.  That is to say, the sweet potatoes are grown on the farm where the distillery is located.  A true farm-to-bottle operation, they distill a number of other products also using ingredients they've grown on-site.

This stuff is tasty, if a bit sweet.  It's pretty amazing, actually, and it is inexpensive.  Find yourself a bottle of the stuff at your local Bevmo/Total Wine and enjoy as an after-dinner sip.

Is Clay still the number one poster?

I've been of my game with the start of school, but I should be catching up.  ;-)

That looks very interesting.  I need to see if I can find it here...

In Minneapolis for the week seeing the young one. Went to supper last night and amongst the list of microbrews something stuck out, Hamm’s,  so I had one.

Using up the last of the Aperol and Prosecco. Will be transitioning to Campari and Amaro for my fall/winter cocktails. There are some beer cocktails I'm interested in, although these would still be good on a hot afternoon and with a light, cheap beer (i.e. Hamm's):

Not Quite Picon Biere
1 oz citrus-leaning Amaro (in France you would use Picon, but it is not available here)
0.25 oz orange liqueur
6 to 8 oz pilsner or lager, chilled
Lemon or orange wedge for garnish

Tequila Soleil
0.5 oz reposado tequila
0.5 oz red bitter liqueur, such as Campari
0.5 oz blanc or sweet red vermouth
4-6 oz session IPA, chilled

I was gonna recommend The Happy Gnome in St Paul, but I see that they've closed.  That's sad. They had a great tap beer selection.

Check out the Brother Justus whiskey distillery in St. Paul. They make some outstanding tipple. Pick up as much as you can because you can’t find that stuff anywhere but the source.

... and we're back. I love my job everyday, but I've had a bunch of crap going on this week outside of school, in this afternoon the last thing I had was study hall, and I have a bunch of girls in there who were incredibly whiny.

Plus it's 75 and sunny. I'm sitting by the covered pool, on beer number three, enjoying the sunshine and just relaxing.

PBR, a local distilleries lemonade plus bourbon, and now a local microbrew blackberry ipa, which is incredibly tasty.

On De ck is a mojito made with a mint that is still growing here. After that I'm totally going with a gin and rhubarb simple syrup drink.

The bummer is I wanted to work on the SV tonight, we'll see what happens.

A  nice cuppa' tea so far, but there's a bottle of Mount Gay Eclipse rum in the cabinet calling out to me (in a friendly Barbados accent) to come and have a go...

The local grocery store happened to have my favorite rosé in stock, so I snagged 3 bottles. Fourstring and I shared one tonight.

Yes!  And I took it for a ride an hour ago.  It REALLY lights it up well.

On a whim, I grabbed a bottle of Basil Hayden "Dark Rye". Didn't bother to read the label or look it up. Grab and go. Never had it before. Turns out that it's a blend of their (supposedly very good) rye, with a Canadian rye, and.... wait for it..... port. Not finished in a port barrel, but actual liquid port. I knew something was up on the first sniff and sip. I was like "WTFF????".

It's not what I wanted (a good rye) but it doesn't suck. Probably won't buy it again, but finishing this bottle won't be the end of the world. The dark fruity flavor from the port works OK with the rye. Only 80 proof. I tend prefer higher octane stuff with bolder flavors.

That sounds awful, Garry. I like rye OK and I like Port, but the two together sounds...manky.

We had a much nicer pour with Thanksgiving dinner last night - a 2012 Cain Cuvee red blend that we "liberated" from the in-laws' wine fridge when they moved two years ago. We considered it and the other bottles we acquired payment for helping pack.

Indeed, a nice glass of Ruby Port in front of the fireplace after dinner is a pleasure indeed, mixing it with whiskey quite frankly sounds sacrilegious, let alone manky. Ruining two drinks with one glass as it where.

Last night after dinner I had a pour of an excellent Balcones rye and my wife had a glass (or two) of Warre Port.  The glasses DID NOT intermix.

Sounders vs Columbus Crew for the MLS Cup tonight. My son in law will be over so I'm guessing Irish Death and a nice shot of Glenfiddich if they win.

Probably the same if they lose, but we'll hope for the best.

There's some Courvoisier VSOP in the cabinet too. That always goes down well.

A great score tonight.  It can be tough to come by!  I've been looking, and a buddy let me know they were at a local grocery store.

This is too good to drink when lit.  So tonight I just had the "King Cake" (a great balance of cake flavor with the milkshake stout) and the Imperial Java.  They both were fantastic!

We had Frankenmartinis last night.  That is, I ran out of Bombay Sapphire when mixing up two martinis, and made up the difference with Tanqueray.  So the martis were built from parts of two dead soldiers.   ;D

Cleaning out everything hiding in my liquor cabinet - never did install a light down there - turning out to be a good thing not to have done.  Ate the last of my Portuguese sour cherry liquor - all that's left now is the pits - LOL.  Opened a bottle of Café al Bicerin for my wife, although the traditional drink is non-alcoholic.

I would love to find that holiday pack around here.  But I guess I'll just have to settle for an Ice Cream Stout from a local.
