Bells Hop Slam was recently released for this year. Picked up a couple six packs today. Will enjoy a can or two this weekend.

Lagunitas Little Sumpin' ale.

With my wife out of town, I was able to go Southern for dinner tonight.  Red beans and rice with sausage (couldn't find Andouille), I spiced up my own greens (Yankee grocery didn't have collard or mustard greens).  I probably need to leave the suburbs and get into the city to find Southern staples.   At least the black eyed peas were in with the beans where they belong--in North Dakota one grocery had them in with the green peas.

Tonight, it's a 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon from Canvas Wines out of Napa. Canvas is a Mondavi family vineyard. I chose this wine knowing that CB would be making pizza for dinner this evening. I had a Zoom happy hour scheduled with a friend for 5:30. We'd originally had plans for dinner at Cafe Laura, which is the student-run restaurant on campus. When the spring semester was scrapped (on-campus), we decided to go out to dinner instead. When that was no longer a possibility, we turned it into a Zoom get together. GD Zoom...those MFers are just sitting back laughing maniacally.

ANYWAY, this wine is SPLENDID and I feel splendid as well as I appear to have consumed approximately 5/8 to 2/3 of the bottle this evening (PRIOR TO DINNER).  :bigok:

I am concerned about my ability to find additional bottles of this wine as I read on the back of the bottle, "Developed exclusively for Hyatt by Michael Mondavi and his son Rob, Canvas wines set a new standard of excellence in dining." Now I need to figure out when the eff I last stayed in a Hyatt last?!? And how did I get the bottle home?!?  :headscratch:

That said, have a great night, y'all! I foresee an early bedtime for me, LOL!!!

I used to make a bigger impression.

First round was Jack and Pepsi with some lime. Still trying to kill off leftover wedding booze (son's wedding) from nearly three years ago.

I'm thinking a very adult sized 321 margarita may be called for. Or perhaps a big azz Kentucky Mule (Moscow Mule w/ bourbon).

Is tarted with a bottle of 2013 Carvalhas Tinto (shared so I can’t take all the credit) followed by a small glass of Portuguese sour cherry liquir and a short glass of Liquor 43.  I’m all out of Campari.   I really don’t understand how Pennsylvania can keep ammo shops open while closing the liquor stores as non-essential business.  Lack of judgement if you ask me.  I guess I should be glad we didn’t shut everything. Close the Wawas if you got to close something.  Drove by a wa2a today, the place was packed, no one practicing social distancing.  No one wearing masks like the governor recommended.  If Wawa don’t got to follow the guidelines, WHYY can’t they open the liquor stores?  I was gonna make a Pisco Sour for Halppy Hour but I’m out of Lime juice.   Helluv a mess here in Montgomerrry county.

Stone Delicious IPA followed by a couple fingers of Larceny bourbon that spent a week in my little oak barrel. I'll try two weeks next time. My first batch went two months and half of it evaporated. F that.

Hah. I just filled mine with Bulleit Rye today...er... yesterday. The days run together. I figured I'd give it a couple weeks.

And Stone Delicious is good stuff.

That's one of the staples they stock in the general store in Brandywine, WV, of all places. That place, for a town of 200 people, has a surprisingly great selection of beer.

We made Jewel cocktails tonight.

1 1/2 oz each of gin, Green Chartreuse and sweet vermouth.
a dash of orange bitters

Shaken and served up in a cocktail glass

Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

The Jewel is slightly sweet with spice and herbal flavors.  Now I just need to find a proper maraschino cherry instead of these neon fluorescent sugary things that are in all the stores.

Prosecco on the patio, in my parents' crystal champagne flutes.  Doggo had a Greenie treat.  Pleasant temps, no wind, just enough cloud cover to be comfortable.  But storms expected by 9pm.

So, I was going to make an Aperol Spritz, but I spotted the rhubarb simple syrup I made a couple of weeks ago, and decided that this needed to take the place of the Aperol.

BTW, the little bottles of prosecco are quite dangerous.  I always feel bad about opening a big bottle.  You gotta finish it before the bubbles get let out, right? So, I forgo a big bottle unless it's a special occasion.  With the little ones, 5 o'clock becomes a special occasion.

I take the small bottles traveling. A good champagne stopper does a pretty good job of keeping the bubbles in. I also use flavored sparkling water, like blood orange or mango-passionfruit. The rhubarb simple syrup sounds fantastic!

I'll probably have an Alaskan Amber to go with my Finnen Haddie, though a nice Washington state Cab is always an option.

My favorite part is eating all the rhubarb mush once you strain the syrup out.

Attended my first bourbon tasting. My less than discerning rankings from least to most favorite.
5. Michters - don't like the flavor
4. Four Roses
3. Elijah Craig
2. Bookers (hooooo weeee 124 proof) Best aroma by far

And the winner is:
1. Woodford Reserve - easiest to drink
