OMG - Enough with the wind already!
« on: December 23, 2015, 11:28:07 PM »
57mph wind gusts. 30mph sustained winds.

I was walking from my SUV into a store and I literally almost got blown over in the parking lot.

At Princeton IL now - danged windy. Windows creaking. We wondered if anything was up so the Wx radio was turned on - Tornado watch for somewhere somewhat close. Saw some lightning late aft/early eve today. Mid 60's here.

Holy s@#t 50+ wind gusts today. Not fun riding in. I think I wore more rubber of the sides of the tires than the center.

Nope, just moderate breezes.  Tree tops are moving just a wee bit.

Woke to about 1/2" of ice frosted with a dusting of snow.  It had changed to rain at that time and slicker than heck.  It took 20 minutes to chip the car clear so I could take the wife to the airport.  Normal 30 minute commute was just over an hour each way.  I'm home until it melts now.

I'm worried about getting out on Friday for the rally at this point.  Main roads are clear with patchy ice.  My back roads are ice covered and non-motorcycle navigable at this time.

If it weren't for the therapeutic properties of the occasional off-camber decreasing radius downhill right-hander I'd almost certainly go completely sane.

Well, I'd commented elsewhere that it never seemed to get windy in Wisconsin.  Not that I'm disappointed.  But today it's rainy and blustery.  22 mph sustained with 32 mph gusts.  Leaves are blowing despite the rain.

Today was a pleasant day in Wisconsin, but the wind was somewhat high for here, upper teens mph when it's usually calm to semi-calm.  But a nice riding day for many folks.

Almost everyone waived, including the Harleys.  I guess that the wind kept the riders who don't waive at home.

Where I grew up (Great Plains) anything less that 20 mph was reported as a calm day. I was trying to come home from Boston (Cambridge) from a business trip and got held over because the airport was shut down due to the 50-60 mph gusts. The first thing I thought was, "Wimps!" :D

With us last night it was strong-straight winds (think about 40 mph or more sustained), a chance of hail that never hit us, and some light rain... say about 4" in 45 minutes. I was standing in the breezeway and watching things blow down the street (branches, litter someone somewhere hadn't picked up, small children, and all that usual stuff). The kids had an ef0 or ef1 last night close to them and set tight at home. You can tell who grew up in "Tornado Alley"; when the tornado sirens go off, they step out into the yard and start looking up to see just where it is.

Meh. Power stayed on so the AC worked. We were cool.

Same here, I used to live in North Dakota.  If you couldn't learn to ride in the wind, you couldn't learn to ride.
