new toy/project for those non-riding days...
« on: July 08, 2014, 12:32:50 PM »
Hey Ya all!

just got myself my dream project. yeah, yeah, it's not a bike, but I've been trying to get one of these for probably 20 yrs. any time a deal would come up, no money...until now.

Here it is...

I have a lot of work ahead to get it back to serviceable shape (and looking better). Wife is already deciding on projects. Fine by me. There are plenty of days that I couldn't ride but would have been able to do stuff around the house. Now I can.

Nice! Be careful though, you can kill your self on one of those things.

I've wanted one of those for years. Unfortunately I never had the room for it.

Still don't.  :'(

yeah, I don't have much room either, but we are planning to buy a house in the next year or two and OH YEAH, we will have room.  If the wife wants any projects done, she better endorse the extra room. muhaahhaa

That things looks totally sweet.  Does it turn metal too?  I'm guessing only wood, right?  I would LOVE a small mill for my barn...

Looks like one of the original Shop Smiths. I remember watching the infomercials back in the 80"s and thought this thing can't be that versatile.

One place i worked at a guy had one and i saw some of the projects he did and i was amassed at how they turned out. I was a believer after that.

ya know, I haven't checked into that... yet. But if it does, OH HELL YES I'm loving it. I got it for the wood capability stuffed in one small area. It's in the garage currently, getting torn apart, gonna get serviced, MAYBE repainted, and finally put back into service to do some projects (like gliding sofas, swings,  things my wife has already planned out).

But first or should I say "while I'm working on the Shopsmith" finish the hutch and get more room in the garage. So I can either do more wood projects or fit a bike for My Honey. she's still debating on what to get. WIth her being so short, she was dead set on a Spyder. But since we demoed one, she is really backing out of it. Heck, It scared the piss out of me too and I was the one driving. Riding 2 wheels is SOOOOOOO much more natural to both of us. we'll see during Sturgis when they have the 25mile demo ride. I'm having her take one out. She's never controlled a bike except in the MSF.

yeah, I didn't know much about them until my Dad brought one home. He's had one model or another over the last 25+ yrs. He used to buy em up, restore em, then sell em for a nice profit. The one I got was built in 1981. So I got my work cut out for me.

Congrats!  Post up images of your projects as you complete them.

Thanks!  will do. probably the first project of pics will be showing the steps or completion of the Shopsmith back in service. Already had some issues where the saw blade did NOT want to come off. actually had to use a gear puller. WTH??? polished some parts and got much more to go.
