Way too many close calls lately (both on the Ural and the RT).

Sheri and I had several long talks about this and, frankly, I'm on the edge of tearing up.  But, I have not been enjoying riding lately (last year or so).  I've not been able to justify the return when compared to the risk.

This has not been an easy decision and it's actually difficult typing this reply.

The RT will be posted soon.

Wow, that's unexpected. I certainly respect your decision but I am surprised and a bit saddened that you're moving away from motorcycles.

Of course, the proceeds from both bikes could get you more than half way to a Miata with an LS3 conversion. That could be fun too.  :)

As one who is "On Sabbatical" I plan to return to riding "some day" (a large reason why I'm still active here), though for now, two wheeled travel is too much of a financial (and bodily) risk.

Though - some day - I shall well enjoy getting on again.

Perhaps the some day aspect will be on your plate vs. never to be enjoyed any more...

Best wishes

Sorry to hear about the tough decision.  Would have expected an orange Ural, with the greater mass and generally slower speeds, would have cut down on risks of not being seen or would have tempered car drivers' willingness to challenge you in your lane when they are passing a bicycle.

I've weighed the same decision about giving up riding like many, usually while off my feet or off the bike from a sports injury that has me re-evaluating all risky activities.  I eventually return, more conservative, and possibly wiser.

Have thoroughly enjoyed your ride reports over the years.  Please keep posting pics from travels in whatever cool sports car you end up with  :)

Damn Doug!... I've actually had these thoughts the last couple years. The streets are getting crazier every year and it pisses me off more than scares me. I can see myself owning an Audi TT or some other quick little convertible but will always have to have some kind of two wheeler. Probably a dirtbike.

I agree, that was very quick.  Almost too quick.

I swear, now knowing I'll have the one remaining bike I'm not sure I can still go through with it.  I may hang on the BMW at least long enough to do the Indy trip I have planned next month and reassess from there.

I have been absolutely overwhelmed by the kind replies and PMs I've received.  I can't thank everyone enough for their thoughts and for sharing experiences.

I was happy/sad to see how quickly the ** SOLD ** notation popped up. Glad the sale went smoothly, but I also know it's been a struggle for you. This stuff gets into our blood.

I like the idea of waiting until the Indy trip to decide on the beemer. But if you find yourself dreading that ride more than getting pumped for it, you'll know a lot more about where your interests are now.

Regardless, you can't stop hanging around here while you're still in the running for the The Highly Coveted STO Fantasy Racing Cup.   :bigok:
