Indianapolis Moto GP, Who's Going?
« on: June 28, 2014, 01:24:03 PM »
MacGyver/Guy Fawkes aka Jason and I have decided we're going to attend the Indianapolis Moto GP August 8-10 http://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/redbullindianapolisgp/

Who else is going?

I'm going and believe Mastros2, satxbonneville, kendenton, nearlyseventy, and I will all be staying at the Radisson out by the airport starting Friday.

Where are we not going to meet in traditional fashion?

I'll be there with my kids as we have every year since the inaugural. Besides the Honda tent non-meet, perhaps we oughter make an exception and actually get together this year. :beerchug:

No go for me.  I'll be in Indy for GenCon the next weekend.  Ahhhh, there's nothing like the Eau de Nerd.

My daughter and I will be there (all 3 days this time!)

I'll be the guy in a Hawaiian shirt and straw hat wandering around the infield. :P

I think a meet up is an excellent idea!  I think we'll be there Saturday and Sunday.  Dinner?

We're still trying to figure out if we're purchasing G/A or seats in one of the stands or splurging for Ducati Island (Jason can park there, I can not *eyeroll*) or some other hospitality type deal.

What's everyone else doing?

Mastros2, satxbonneville, kendenton, nearlyseventy, and I are staying at the Radisson out by the airport all weekend.

We have seats together in covered Penthouse E and we added paddock passes (some for Saturday only and some for all 3 days).

I'd LOVE for all of us to meet up with one another.  My only wish outside of the track activities is to go down and see Meridian Saturday night.

we usually get the weekend infield g/a tickets and wander on sunday between turn 4 and 7 thru 9 (the south end of the track) getting up close to the fence to watch. There is usually a video screen or two to watch as the riders string out and go out of sight.

on saturday, we usually hang out in the seats on the north end of the track...its a good place to see the guys really pushing (and hisiding...stoner/hayden in '12) though with the new track configuration I'm not sure.

parking inside is nice too.

All race weekend meetings are purely unintentional and always never take place in the Honda tent. It's the rule.

I can't remember where and when the "Honda Tent" gag started (Indy or Laguna).  But, at sometime in the past, STN members were planning to meet at the Honda tent where Honda had its current line up on display at a set time.  The meeting didn't happen and it's been a running gag ever since.   ;)

That would be Laguna and DogBoy for the win.

Buying tickets for this event is a pita with all the different promotions and offers but we finally settled on one!

Gen Admission for Saturday since we are arriving around lunchtime and probably wont get onto the track facility till 1 pm or so.

I splurged (birthday present to myself)  and bought the corner 9 hospitality tickets with corner 9 seats.  If it happens to be a humid day, having an air conditioned placed to crash *and get comp'ed booze* is worth it to me. :beerchug:

Any one have any ideas where to go for dinner either Saturday night or Sunday night?

If we wanted to all get together either night what are the tried and true options?  I haven't been to Indianapolis since the inaugural Moto GP so I'm clueless.

Last time we went we went with a pretty good sized group to a gastropub/grill that had something for everyone but the name escapes me.

I wouldn't mind making the reservation if I had a general idea of how many people and where.

Ill be there early Friday morning and they'll probly have to kick me out late Sunday arvo.  Most of my viewing will likely be done from the cheap side of turn 9 on the hill.

Id definitely like to partake in an STN meet for dinner or watever at some point.  Hope to see yous there!

There are Waffle House restaurants in Indianapolis. That makes me happy.

I'll be arriving sometime on Thursday...i hope...the vagaries of non-rev travel. Fri-Mon at the Radisson. Thursday night is catch as catch can since I can never be sure of arrival.

Arriving Thursday afternoon, checking into hotel and hoping to head to the Moon Dog that early evening for the Cycle World/Motorcyclist showing of 'Why We Ride'. Various journos and perhaps some 'special guests'.

Are most folks staying sunday night? If so, dinner reservations would be much easier- I used to stay but it was so dead post-race that I started riding home instead. I could stay an extra night if the company was worthwhile.

Very excited about the paddock passes this year!

How will these things work?  Do we have anytime access to the paddock area on Saturday (day I purchased it).  Or, is it like a paddock walk similar to what we saw in Austin with the long line of folks?

I had paddock passes at COTA. There, the pass gave you access to the back end of the garages, not the front. At the back were the commissaries and the trailers. Lots of the crews and riders were outside, talking and visiting the comms. I got close to and spoke with a bunch of luminaries. Uccio had Rossi's scooter waiting, and I was standing directly in front of the scoot, so I experienced the gravitational pull of #46-- dozens of people appeared from nowhere when he came out of the food area to get on the scooter.

Very excited about the paddock passes this year!

How will these things work?  Do we have anytime access to the paddock area on Saturday (day I purchased it).  Or, is it like a paddock walk similar to what we saw in Austin with the long line of folks?
The line from which we were shamed?
