We all like a poll. Perhaps.

Well? I use a single dipped headlight BTW. I've heard and seen that the US safety advice is keep the thing on main beam-even if it annoys other driovers, at least they've seen you.

All recent bikes sold in the US have no off switch for the headlights.  If the bike is running, the headlight is on.

Some do modify their bikes to change this, but any cop will ticket a non-vintage bike with a non-functioning headlight.

Off is not an option here and hasn't been for decades.

Many years ago, I kept the high beam on in daylight to add visibility. I've dropped that habit.

It's been the same here. Low beam always on for years. No off switch.
Some jurisdictions frown on riding with the high beams on, others encourage it.
Up here, the province's insurance corporation (SAAQ) encourages rides to use their high beams but the safety code makes it illegal. It is however mostly tolerated by the LEOs as long as you don't blind oncoming motorists.

With high beams on, you stand out but at the same time it is harder to tell your speed and distance.

I always run with high beams on during the day.

Last I knew, New Hampshire was the only state that doesn't have a motorcycle headlight law. Come to think of it, do they have a seat belt law yet? New Hampshire- "Live Free And Die"!

Right. Unless they're from Honduras and can't read English signage. Then you're fucked. Like I was 10 years ago.

Low beam is on like others have stated.  I also usually ride with 2 auxillary lights on too.  I feel safer that way, even if it is a false sense of security, but at least I know I"m doing all I can to make myself more visible.

Decided that if conspicuity is the goal, there are better solutions than running with your high beams on. I tend to go with auxiliary lights.

You missed an option. Modulating headlights. Then you look like a cop and folks pull over.

Lights? Who needs lights? Ride an FJR and everyone will see you coming.

Can't turn off the headlight anyways.

And all sorts of other stuff. Remember the 70s headlight that created a fake ball of light two foot in front of the bike? That worked so well.

No . .. but I KNOW I need one of them . . . . . imagine the fun at the next BBQ!

Where do I find one of these things?

We had two bags of grass, 75 pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.
