Damn, my dog died..
« on: April 07, 2014, 11:00:13 AM »
Friday she was a bit lethargic but I didn't give it much thought. Saturday I put a little bacon grease on her dog food, she loves that, and she didn't touch it? Sunday she had trouble walking to I thought I better take her to the vet this morning. too late, she died in her sleep. this sucks...

old pic but she was a great part of the family.

Sorry chief. She looks a lot like my Maggie. Border Collie mix. But she was well loved and she knew it. :'(

Sorry to hear.  We're coming up on the same thing...again.  Probably hard to imagine but the dying in their sleep is what we're hoping for at this point.  :(

My deepest condolances.  The loss of a pet IS NOT easy.  Losing a pet peacefully makes it a little better.  Please remember the happy times and memories and don't allow the family to dwell on how you found her.  My she rest in peace as I am sure she lived a life of love.  :inlove:

Sheri and I have lost three dogs since we've been married over the years.  The later two were more difficult as our first loss was a peaceful passing as he simple didn't wake up.

Regarding the later two, we lost our rescue GSD two year ago of old age (15 years).  But, we had to make the decision to have her her put down.  I knew that was going to be hard but didn't realize how difficult.  The only thing that made it less difficult was the fact that our GSD slowly got worse over time and we were anticipating this.

Then, just two weeks ago Sheri and I were woken just shortly after going to bed by our Sibe who was having seizure.  This was her second seizure within the last 6 months.  The first lasted about 5 minutes.  This one went on for nearly an hour when we decided to take her to the emergency vet.  They took her in and provided her with Diazepam to relax her and help stop the seizure.  They also did quick blood work to see what was going on.  Within minutes they could tell her organs were shutting down.  She was dying on the table in front of us.  The Vet asked if we wanted her to go with her dignity and recommended euthanasia.  We made the call and our little buddy, Tasha, passed in our arms at 1AM that night.  Tasha was 14.

It's still tough going home sometimes because I expect her to greet me.  It's taken me some time to remember her by the good times as the last three hours of her life were not pleasant ones and I struggled clearing my memory of that night of trauma.

Only motorcycle riders know why a dog sticks its head out of a car window.

Sorry that happened for you.

At least it happened peacefully, and at home.

Unfortunately, we sign up for this the moment we decide to invite a dog into our lives.

Remember the good times!

Sorry to hear this.  Stomach distortion?

probably although she didn't seem to be in much pain? A good guess though as she was perfectly healthier a few days prior.
