The weather is beginning to turn warm, which means more of us will take the time to explore the great outdoors, along with the parks and lands set aside for public use. FreeCampsites.net is a simple web service that shows you where you can pitch your tent for free, do a little roughing it, and get away from it all.P

The service is as simple as the name implies. Just head over, type in a specific location where you'd like to go camping, and you'll see campsites in that area. Even though the name is FreeCampsites, the sites are color-coded so you can see free ones, as well as paid campsites and sites that require a pass or a permit in order to set up. The map and all of its data is crowdsourced, so the more people using it, the better the database gets. P

The team behind FreeCampsites.net point out that it's not just tent-and-fire camping sites they keep track of either—if you're the type who prefers to head out in an RV or a car, they can help you find a site as well—but they're not interested in RV-friendly parking lots. Public lands and spaces are their forte, and you'll find plenty of them on the map. Hit the link below to give it a try. P

The only place I camp is in Clay's back yard.

Everyone here is welcome to that at any time whether I am home or not, but you might have to spin a tale or two around a fire imbibing in my worst of distillations (whether I am home or not).   :bigok:

So that's where it is?

Good resource.  Thanks.

Google Maps is almost useless for finding campgrounds.  They seem to only list the commercial places.

That's because they are PAID to do that.

Is that bluepoof's site? I thought I recall her starting up a campsite site.

I love that site.  I use it all the time.  I stayed at the place linked below back in Feburary on my way to Big Bend.  I use it when traveling and in the local area when I just want to get away and camp for a night or two.

That's an awesome shot.  Almost looks like the Serengeti.

This is valuable stuff.  I moved it up here with my god-like powers.   :bigok:

I always figured anywhere out of site off a side road was free camping.
