Came out of hibernation today! Went for a little ride and here are a few pictures. Three Mile Island Middletown, PA

Frank you suck.
Full story – I finally pulled the trigger – it could almost be described as an accidental shooting.
I was still mulling the choices around in my feeble mind. Believe me, there’s lots of time and space for thoughts to circulate.
I had pretty much ruled out the Ninja 1000 on insurance costs. The estimated quotes I got from Progressive said the Ninja was 2 or 3 times as expensive to insure as a Connie. What I learned in hindsight is that Progressive’s estimates – even though made on my policy – are not very accurate. The actual cost to add the Connie to my policy was $300 different than the estimate they gave me. So who knows what the real cost of the Ninja was – not that it mattered – I didn’t like the luggage options.
I’m telling you; if they ever put a half-fairing and suitable hardcase luggage on that Yammie triple all you guys are ever gonna see is taillights. But I digress.
I stopped at a dealership to compare fairing and footpeg positions of the ’13 FJR to the ’14 FJR. I sat on the ’14 FJR at the DC motoshow and didn’t like the way the fairing collided with my shin. Note to RDoug: Riding posture is just plain different for us who are too-tall to be cowboys.
The dealer I stopped at had a brand new didn’t-even-have-oil-in-it left-over 2013 Connie on the floor at what I thought was a grab-it on-the-spot discount. Same as Montgomeryville was asking for a used 2012 with 7000 miles on the clock. Plus I got to use my $500 Kawi Kash discount from the show.

In truth, I went home & discussed it with my wife. I was seriously considering a 2011 BMW R1200 RT with 7000 miles on it; one really really nice machine! Lighter, far more comfortable for the passenger, and loaded with accessories and electronic suspension. Three things concerned me: more $$$, knee room (my knee doesn’t quite fit under the notch in the tank with my foot on the peg), and I got a whiff of the notorious BMW attitude while perusing accessories and that just turned me completely off.
I’ve never agreed with the philosophy that being the most technologically advanced makes you the best. Just for a moment, let’s consider civilizations in general. The bushmen lived happily on the savannahs for 5,000 years without leaving any permanent scars before America was discovered. We’ve managed to progress further technologically in the last 400 years than those savages ever did. And we leave hundreds of Love Canals as a legacy to future generations. Meanwhile, those primitive people left a pristine environment for their children. Now [let me ask you] who had the “better” civilization? Anyway, I digress; this site is about motorcycling. Gimmie back my 2-stroke! I can't deal with that better-than-thou attitude because I bought a more technologically advanced machine, whether it's because you got chrome steel fenders or a single-sided swing arm.. [RANT OVER]
So here I am with a full ear-to-ear sh@t-eatin grin. An I'm glad it's a rice-burner cause gasohol is crap.

Got back to the dealership and closed the deal on the Connie not long before another prospective buyer who had also gone home to think it over. Not my favorite color; it will show the dirt, but at that price, I guess I could learn how to keep a motorcycle clean.

Very nice!
Now I feel like Frank.... too much work and I've missed this for 6 days??? And nobody even called??... lol
Congrats Frank, I think you made the right choice!
Oh and while CB is swapping out the handrails, don't be surprised if your odometer jumps to 100K.. :)
JJ
First bike I've ever had to keep on a charger, even part time.
Uhh, I might be swappin cans.
There's lots I like on this machine. The exhaust ain't one of them.
Did I mention the HEATED GRIPS. My hands were toasty warm yesterday without heated gloves.
My hands would never stay completely warm on my Wee, even with heated gloves.

Nope
It's a glass mat, not a dry charge. They told me it was a new battery and on a charger all night before I picked it up. Read 14.4 when I pulled in the garage. Week later it's 12.7. Still normal, but Kawi book says it needs to be plugged in if its not run for a few weeks, ESP in this cold.
and a sticker! She's ready for the spring.

Hi Jeets, Im going Friday, so stay in touch!
Funny story - I was talking to a fellow today who rode down to the Dragon last year. They started on 219, but it got "too twisty" as they got down into WV so they hopped over onto I-81. Lot better riding.
How observant. Are you a meteorologist?
Rode to work, put in 4 hours, then went shopping at Bass Pro. I really hate that place. It's worse than an ice cream shop.
Must be fall. I guess winter will be here in a week or so. Time to dig the magic plug out from under the seat.

Well, a week later and it was 28 degrees on the way to the range yesterday and the training bikes were covered in frost. >:(
Had a sweet ride in to work early this morning in a warm fog.
It rained a lot during the day so I had to hear all the "you're gonna get wet, its raining on your bike" crap.
Fukkem.
Nice sunny ride home.
I overheard the emus telling the llamas.,....
Tammy & I are doing a leaf-peeping run this weekend. Tonight we're staying at the Koolwink Motel (http://www.koolwinkmotel.com/) in Romney; a nifty spin in the wayback machine. Tomorrow we'll Fugawi down to Staunton.
View along Smoke Hole Road.
Does "this" have anything to do with the movement of heaven and earth?
I picked it up yesterday at my local dealer.
It's a well sorted out 2013 GS. I am now the second owner. Next order of business is to shred the remaining rubber off the street based Michelins so I can get a good set of dual sport tires on it.

Not today - big business dinner meet right after work and it'll be raining by then, so I brought the car.
Well, a job offer may be coming out of this so I figured not showing up soaking wet would be in good form. :)Not today - big business dinner meet right after work and it'll be raining by then, so I brought the car.
And you call yourself a motorcyclist.
Probably will be one of the last days I ride the Sprint to work. Have a handshake deal to sell, just need to work out logistics on transfer. Getting a little cold to ride the Tuono to work.

My list in no way compares with you two, however.

Having said that, the battery won't go over 12.3 volts. I suppose I should order a new one before needing to use the heated gear.
Couldn't really post this in PA Rides since most of it was in Jersey.

Nope, new battery was dead.
Revival - drunken post #678 - Yes, I'm hoime now. I found out23 things.
I like whiskey.
The PR4s n the Connie do not like tar snakes. They're like freaken speed bumps. I swear I can feel the elevation change when I cross them through a corner. Could be because I was running higher tire pressures. Tried running both front and rear at 42 based on JJ's advice. Bike turns in surprisingly quicker. Must keep this in mind on 311.
I now understand what the professional reviewers mean about the linked brakes biting when you step on the rear after the front has been applied. Was overtaking a left-lane parade of big - I mean they were big - I mean the Riders were big - and their bikes - on the 309 expressway. When the lead rider does a fist pump - I thought he was signalling single file; he meant change lanes - and the big red (no helmet - that's how I her hair was red) just crosses into my lane without checking her mirrors.
You cannot practice emergency stops. I was actually started out trying to do that earlier today on some empty highway. Emergency stops are something you cannot simulate. I got a good taste of it when big red head slipped across the lane in front of me. She was even more surprised than I was.
I was feathering the front and clamped on the rear. No choice - recipe for disaster!!! The Connie handled admirably although it bucked a bit. TG for ABS. There may have not been whol;e lotta skill involved.
I slipped outside as she crossed inside and rolled the throttle to the stop. Won't be seeing those folks again.
That is all.
So, did the whiskey flow to calm the nerves or to celebrate missing big red?
(was it OK that I laughed out loud reading this?)
Where is the shot looking into Ma?
A ride to the quarry?
A ride to the quarry?
:headscratch:
I refused to acknowledge that riding season is over.
Rode to work today. Got snowed on. A lot. Sigh.
Uhyup I did.
It was 16 F. Too cold for me to even want to go outside the garage.

Time to change that avatar. :pokestick:
there, now my picture is correct.Well, that looks more appropriate for the short way from Hyner View to Rt 44. Nice ride
My riding today consisted of my 56 mile ride in to work which I'll reverse on the way home tonight. Not very exciting.
I did manage roughly 500 miles on Saturday though. Great twisty roads in WV and achieved a goal I've been working towards all summer but couldn't manage the free time until the temps were in the 30's. Oh well.

60's all week and a forecast of 70 on Friday.
Oddly enough there are no other bikes in the lot.

Ridin' vs. wrenchin'. What's not to love?
Another week and I should be able to venture farther than a few miles from home. Still not a whole lot of strength in my left arm.
Rode in today and one of my co-workers was nice enough to let me know I have a headlight out.
You know how your eye is drawn to a particular part of a tableau and your mind might take a moment to assemble all the pieces of what you're seeing?
As I was riding down rt 349 leaving Westfield yesterday morning, a man was leaning on a guard rail, casually holding a rifle with its butt on his hip, barrel pointing up. We've all seen that pose in a every police or war movie ever. Kind of casually standing there looking right at me.
My eyes went wide and I started figuring how quickly I could hunch down and throttle up to run, aim for him and take the crash, or get my 9mm out of the tank bag one handed.
And then...
The rest of the scene came into "focus" in my mind.
He was actually a state police officer standing there, likely waiting for game officer or something, his truck was about 30 or 40 yards further up the road and a deer was lying off the road in a field. Likely scenario, a hunter tagged it but didn't kill it, or it was hit by a car and horribly injured and needed to be put down.
Note to self: always look for the rest of the picture. And don't kamikaze a cop on your motorcycle. I feel like these are good life rules.
Rode it again today. It's one of my bad habits.
https://youtu.be/ZHJFsCpNpKU
on my way to Hawk Nest ,traffic was horrible, so ended up near Lake Walenpalpack and then home, about 200 miles, great weather for a ride!
Got a little wet, but we rode out to Valentines, VA to mail off Valentine's cards to our luvey's.

Does straddling the bike as I move it from the basement back into the garage count?
If the motorcycle was moving while you were sitting on it and your feet weren't touching the ground, then yes!
This wet, miserable, cold weather is just f'ing depressing. :(I don't let wet or cold stop me. Snow ,slush, and ice does, but not cold or wet. Cold and wet might do the trick, too.

I got out yesterday for the first time since The Virginian's meet. (Are you old enough to remember that show? I consider myself fortunate that I can remember that meet! Not enough Jägerbombs I guess.) Not an unbearable hiatus considering we spent 3 weeks in Germany. Was a near perfect day for riding, overcast, dry & 70F.
Found some new roads. Never know what you are going to see.

Where is this?
Went to run errands today with a heat index of 106*F, an hour and a half later I was zapped and ran back home to the AC.
The sport-touring Tundra is in for it's annual state-sponsored extortion (inspection) So I'm riding in today and tomorrow and testing out the heated gear.
^^^ Nice! The snowflakes make it a "winter helmet".
It was nearly 70 deg in southern VA. Logged 183 miles for some burgers in Kilmarnock. The restaurant was formerly known as Northern Neck Burgers. But they're try to franchise and have changed the name to No Nonsense Burgers

Picked up a bike the Saturday before Christmas and have 700 miles on it already. Christmas day was a little cold. Other than that i didn't ride 2 days except for work days. Had to make room for the new bike and it rained.
Hopefully this year will be a little drier.
Short loop around White's Mill and Swamp Creek. This bike is so much better suited for PA backroad gravel & potholes.I agree,I have had mine on semi paved goat paths in ,Pa ,Ohio ,and West By God Virginia. It just eats it up.

I'm sure not an hd guy, but if i had to ride one, it'd be a Wide Glide with a flat bar.
Yep, got off my dead ass and rode, and got rained on on RT356 on the way home,WTF?
Got Mrs. Smoker out on the new bike for a couple of hours today.
Should be a little warmer ride in tomorrow. ;D
Quite true
Should be a little warmer ride in tomorrow. ;D
Well that couldn't have been further from the truth. Brrr.
No. But I sat on someone else's bike today and I liked it.
So I bought it.☺
It's a 2008 CBF1000A. Apparently it's not sold in the USA.
Anyone want a US BMW? It's an R1100S with a non functioning rear brake (unless it can be fixed)
Yep. Still having finger/button issues. Wrong location.I do the same thing all the time,on the phone and the Kindle,I gotts fat little fingers.
My issue isn't fingers. It's figuring. These new fangled gadgets won the war. I surrendered so now I'm just guessing my way through life. I'm lucky my posts even end up on this site. For all I know I'm telling things to a billion Chinese on a sewing website and autocorrect is changing my inputs so they make sense to someone.. LOL ,I figure the NSA will direct my posts to the correct forum.
Yep. Yarmouth to Digby Nova Scotia then down to Lower West Pubnico and back to Yarmouth
Color me extremely jealous.
Oh and yes....more scallops...
Yeah did a ride in Pa. Here is a photo to blow Sams phone up again LOL
Now spend the next three weeks, shining chrome! :)
It'll get washed but I don't own garage queens. This has over 140K miles.

... the bikes feel so much faster when you haven't ridden them in a while.

When you think about it, a snowman melting is just dissolving into its own blood.
I am not riding today. The tornado warnings, the horizontal rain, the birds hanging still in the wind because they can't go anywhere, and the copious trees falling down suggest it's best to just stay indoors today.

I kinda maybe sorta wanna do Sturgis ONCE, just to say I did. But then I see pictures, and I change my mind for another year or three. Daytona and Ocean City have been enough of a "bike week experience" for me so far. The Honda Hoot in Pidgeon Forge I did a bunch of years back was... interesting... the year I went. That poor town was not ready for those numbers.

Master the bikes you currently have and see what skill brings to the table. I could always tote the CRF450R and YZ465 over to your place when this shit settles down if you need a dose of extreme power. However I'm not responsible for any misadventure incurred. :o

You habe to time it right. I went about 10 years ago and had the street all to myself. Granted it was 2 weeks before the Harleys showed up and 4am but I still had the town to myself. I would go back again for those conditions.
You must use balance finesse and traction management to stay on top of an open class bike anywhere. The YZ is so torquey it makes a great trail bike. If you can ride that 4 wheeled thing over there you can ride anything.
the new 450's are amazing machines, but being fat and old an out of shape they begin to tire me out after an hour or two. therefore I stick with my fat old man bike... lol..
I did, in fact. First time in too long. Gorgeous morning. Probably stinking hot this afternoon. :) Waaaaaaaaaah.:needpics:

I trailered my son's Speed Triple and DR650 back to Pittsburgh from NY today in preparation for his move back next month. Of course I had to take the Speedie through the neighborhood just to make sure it would start and all. Bike runs good, even with 1.5 year old gas in it. I suspect someone needs to find a way to get rid of that old gas (afternoon ride tomorrow).😁😁😁
I put fresh gas in the Versys today. Only took 2 hours to run 15 miles over to the Shell station and back.

What did you do push it there? Or did you take the scenic route to the shell station that was 15 miles away as the crow flies.
Yep, it looked nice this morning. Didn’t pack rain gear. Saw the clouds rolling in around noon so I headed for home. Thunder, lightning, down-pouring rain, gale force winds; it was a wild ride home.
I could see clear skies just ahead of me. I tried to outrun the storm front. Didn’t happen. The news just said that the storm front was moving at 90 mph. Versys handled flawlessly.
Got soaked to the skin. Anybody have a modicum of common sense they could share? ;)

It's too hot.
Yup. And I will likely continue to ride to work every day until the weather conspires to knock me off the bike.
