VA to Charleston, SC
« on: April 15, 2018, 05:43:33 PM »
All,

I'm planning a scooter trip to Charleston, SC to see the Hunley. Would anyone have any recommendations for decent surface scenic roads in this part of the country? This map is just a google maps to show the overview and not what I have mapped out. I ask because folks that live in these parts really offer up some great suggestions that I would never have known about.

Thank you,

Eric

I'm sure you have the roads in VA figured out.

Other than the Blue Ridge Parkway, here are some suggestions to consider:

Nice alternate to the BRP.

Rt. 8.

Squirrel Spur, 89, and Siloam.

Going through Uwharrie National Forest doesn't suck.

Other than that, I don't have much for you as I've not yet found a road which "moves" me from Uwharrie to the coast.  If you find one, let me know.  I will leave you with this nugget, stop by Sweatman's BBQ for some incredible South Carolina mustard based Q.  It's so good.

If you need a free bed along the way, let me know.

Cheers.

you don't owe me anything.

If you've not been to Charleston before, it's a food paradise.

Mine and Sheri's favorites:

Hall's Steakhouse - dinner

Husk - dinner and first class bar

Poogan's Porch - breakfast

The Gin Joint - wonderful bar

Here's my first stab at it. I was hoping to make it in one day but that's 552 miles in one shot on a scooter. We shall see?

Looking good.  Do you have any overnights planned on the way down?

I don't as time off is always my nemesis. It's more an issue if I can regarding health. So I will go as far as I can go till I don't feel comfortable continuing. It appears my 500 to 1,000 mile days are sadly over.
