Hah! Here we go again.
« on: March 25, 2018, 09:52:46 AM »
April 2018, monsoon season in the south and I'm now entered in the Rock n Ride 4 rally, a 33 hour funfest.  The 'stich is freshly waterproofed and new zippers installed!

:pope:  /channeling bad memories of tornado alerts from the Cape Fear away.......

There may be more eggsanity the day after the finishing banquet depending on my state of mind.

I missed that Cape Fear but it sure generated some awesome ride reports.

I did ride that weekend, meeting the MD 20-20 rallybastard for lunch in southern PA while he was scouting boni. And it was pouring. The restaurant I met him at had a big Gold Wing riders meeting going on in a back room when we got there. The only bikes in the parking lot were ours.

Rock and Ride is a new one. Did this pop up to replace Cape Fear?

I think so.  This is the fourth year, so that would jive with the CFs ending.  Getting better at this routing and scheduling thing.  Just a couple tweaks and I think I've the the max points available for where I'm starting (@home).  Efficiency rating is better than any of my other rally times.

I'm probably over my head for this time of year and having literally no seat time since Thanksgiving week out in SF.  Two short day rallies last summer was my only stamina check for all of 2017 also.  Points are dispensed for the rest bonus and I'm planning on maxing that out.

Awesome or terrifying?  I started the 2011 CF with tornado sirens going off and rode thru a couple tornado tracks with big time destruction.

Yeah, "terrifying" is a better adjective.

Rally book received and route established.  Even booked a motel for my rest bonus.   ;D   I'm committed to the routing.  Now all that's left is to ride the planned route and keep my documentation correct.  Bonus pictures will be posted after I get home.

Link to follow along is in my sig.

Well, heck.

The Rock n Ride rally starts early Friday morning and we're in the midst of an ice storm in southern Michigan.  To make it worse, I'm out in the country where roads don't get treated nearly as well as the urban thoroughfares.  Northern Michigan has over a foot of snow on the ground!  Weather forecasts for the next few days are depressing too.  I don't want to DNS for weather in APRIL, FFS.  Fingers crossed it gets warmer than necessary to get this crap outta here and I can go play.

fx/ fingers crossed

I just notified the rally master that I'm 98% a Will Not Start due to weather.  Our roads will probably not be navigable on a motorcycle for at least a week at this point.  Warmth is just a wishful dream. Snow covered icy freeways, temperatures in the low 30s for highs?  Fsck this shit.  It's supposed to be fun.  The wife is reporting 26* is central Illinois this morning.   :baldy: :fitz:

Should be a nice substitute rally going on in Virginia the beginning of next month.

Bummer. But you're right -- it should be fun and that sounds both cold and dangerous. Not an easy decision for an LD rider to make. Good on you.

Now you'll have a bigger budget for the MD 20-20.   ;)

Family weekend.  My son is hosting a family barbecue and he's damn good at it.

And registration closed last Saturday.  ;D  Made me look.  The Void is will be opening soon for a good while though.

October 5-6, 2018

Starting at:
Columbia, TN
Kingsland, GA
(yea, well, maybe... Read a ride report from 2017 if you don't get it)
Reading, PA

Finishing in Fredericksburg, VA

I can try to not get stopped on the way home this time.

ETA:  I may have a window of opportunity Friday.  Spent some time chatting with the RM and I can start late with notice to them Friday.  If I can get out by 11am, I will only have to bypass three stops, but they're big ones.  Nearly 2000 points big.  I'll finish ok though.
